You don't find your totem animal (your totem animal finds you).
Note: you may have several totem animals.
Finding your totem animal:
Notice the things around you. There are signs everywhere. If you need guidance it will come. Your totem animals will seek you out. What animals or birds are around when you need help? What animal do you often see in dreams? What animal keeps making an appearance in your life. (It doesn't have to be the actual animal, it might be a picture of it or something representing it.) A totem animal will definitely assist you (if you're smart enough to recognize its messages).
I'm not going to go into the characteristics of each animal and the gifts they bring. There are many fine sites for that. Your totem will find you. Keep your eyes open. They can teach and show you more than you can imagine. Good luck!
